Dr Waller read Medicine  at Downing College at the University of Cambridge. He also read for an intercalated degree in Neuroscience. He undertook basic and higher psychiatric training in the Yorkshire Deanery and also work as an Honorary Lecturer in the Academic Unit of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Leeds.

He is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council for General Adult Psychiatry, with an endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry [GMC number: 4776537].

He holds a Masters in Clinical Psychiatry and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Leeds and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the University of Durham.

He currently works as a Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry for NHS Lothian at St John’s Hospital, where he is also the Associate Director of Medical Education. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer with the Division of Psychiatry at the University of Edinburgh.
